Alison Shaw

Executive Director, Action on Climate Team, SFU
Dr. Shaw has over two decades of experience developing and mobilizing climate change and sustainability science and policy research. In 2001, she was the first authorized participant researcher in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) process and, since, has been designing ways to integrate climate and sustainability strategy into policy and practice across sectors and scales. She has worked as a scholar, a science-policy strategist, and, through her company, FlipSide Sustainability, a sustainability consultant and organizational coach. As Executive Director of ACT – Action on Climate Team at Simon Fraser University, Alison and her team advance low carbon resilience (LCR) approaches and nature-based solutions (NbS) to ensure that ‘climate action that multi-solves’ is mainstreamed into policy, planning, strategy, and operational decisions across sectors and scales. The ACT team works with partners to co-create, test, and evaluate pioneering approaches that advance and accelerate climate resilience, decarbonization, and other sustainability priorities and goals.
